Kozłówka – the aristocratic Zamoyski residence and one of the most beautiful palaces in the Lublin region
Kozłówka is one of the most beautiful and elegant attractions in the Nałęczów area. Located in a peaceful, green setting, it enchants with its exceptionally well-preserved palace and park complex, the history of the Zamoyski family, representative interiors, historic chapel, carriage house, extensive park, and one of the most distinctive socialist realism art galleries in Poland.
The heart of Kozłówka is the Zamoyski Museum, housed in a former late Baroque magnate residence. The palace was built around 1742 for the Bieliński family based on a project by Józef Fontana and became the property of the Zamoyski family in 1799. The greatest changes and the residence's heyday took place at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries when Konstanty Zamoyski rebuilt the palace and gave it a representative character. The interiors preserve an authentic décor from the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the Second Empire style.
Visiting the palace is a true journey into the world of aristocratic everyday life. The interiors captivate with their wealth of details: mirrors, chandeliers, paintings, fabrics, furniture, porcelain, stucco, and family memorabilia. This is not an empty residence viewed only from the outside but a place where one can feel the atmosphere of a former home — elegant, full of art, family stories, and testimonies of Polish aristocratic life.
One of the most important stops is the palace chapel, modeled after the royal chapel in Versailles. It is an exceptionally harmonious, bright, and solemn space that shows the important role not only of representation but also of spiritual life in former residences. The Kozłówka chapel impresses both with its architecture and atmosphere.
Next to the chapel is the Room of Father Stefan Wyszyński, commemorating the stay of the future Primate of the Millennium in Kozłówka during World War II. This is an important, more reflective part of the visit, which shows that the history of this place does not end with the story of an aristocratic residence but also includes the dramatic fates of the 20th century.
It is also worth visiting the Carriage House, located in a historic 18th-century building of the palace and park complex. It formerly served as a stable for draft horses, and in a designated area was the Zamoyski palace carriage house. Today, you can see old horse-drawn vehicles, travel accessories, and elements related to travel culture before the car era.
A separate, very interesting part of the museum is the Socialist Realism Art Gallery. This exhibition is completely different in character from the elegant palace interiors. It presents works by Polish artists mainly from 1949 to 1954 and shows art subordinated to the ideology of a totalitarian system. The collection numbers nearly two and a half thousand diverse works by over seven hundred painters, draftsmen, graphic artists, and sculptors.
The contrast between the palace elegance and the Socialist Realism Art Gallery makes the visit to Kozłówka very diverse. On one hand, you can admire the world of old salons, and on the other — see art that tells about a completely different era, propaganda language, and mechanisms of 20th-century history.
An integral part of the tour is the palace park. It is an ideal place for a peaceful walk after touring the interiors. Avenues, old trees, well-maintained garden compositions, a rosarium, flower beds, and viewing axes create an elegant, very picturesque space. The palace and park complex also contains seven natural monuments, which emphasizes the natural value of this place.
During the season, the gardens and rosarium look particularly beautiful. It is a perfect place for photos, resting in the shade of trees, and a quiet walk amid architecture and greenery. Kozłówka is attractive not only to history lovers but also to those who enjoy beautiful gardens, photography, architectural details, and places with atmosphere.
On the route, attention should also be paid to the palace courtyard, outbuildings, façade details, fountain, park sculptures, and the symmetrical layout of the entire complex. Kozłówka is a place perfected in every detail — from the representative entrance, through the palace, to the garden viewing axes.
For those who like sightseeing with an educational element, a multimedia exhibition “Kozłówka on the timeline”, temporary exhibitions, and other displays made available seasonally by the museum can be an interesting addition. Before arrival, it is worth checking the current program, as the offer may vary depending on the season.
Kozłówka is an excellent idea for a half-day trip during a stay at Arche Nałęczów. It is best to plan time both for touring the palace and for a walk in the park, a visit to the carriage house, and the Socialist Realism Art Gallery. It is a place that combines history, art, architecture, nature, and the story of a changing Poland.
During your stay at Arche Nałęczów, it is worth visiting Kozłówka, especially if you are looking for an elegant, peaceful, and very valuable attraction in the region. It is one of those trips that stays in memory — thanks to the beauty of the palace, authentic interiors, park scenery, and the exceptional atmosphere of a former residence.
